Thatchbor Thatch Tiles

Our buildings and umbrella kits are thatched using Thatchbor Thatch tiles which are a natural product made from South African Cape reed. The thatch tiles can be fixed onto existing roof structures, they are also available as a DIY product and are ideal for theming your existing structures with Breeze Houses and the umbrella kits, bringing a whole new look to your outside space or can even be used indoors to create a thatched bar area.

The thatch tiles have the added benefit that they are treated with Thatchbor fire retardant achieving a BS476 : Part 7 Class 2Y for fire retardancy.

The tiles are pre-fabricated and created around a do-it-yourself idea and therefore make construction a simple procedure. The tiles can be clipped onto an 8mm diameter steel rod, rope or nailed onto a wooden batten.

Thatchbor

The Thatchbor process is based on impregnating grass, reed or similar materials with an innovative new product. Called Thatchbor, this product combines biological, preservative fungicide and fire-retardant products.

The innovative aspect of Thatchbor is the treatment process. The wax layer on the surface of the grass and reed normally prevents the absorption of treatment products into the grass/reed system. Thatchbor has been specially developed for impregnation, which facilitates the penetration of Thatchbor right into the heart of the grass/reed stem, so providing full treatment of the grass/reed. Protection is permanent and leaching is minimal.

Fibre Thatch Tiles

Fibre Thatch® is a new innovation and is perfect if you want the look of traditional thatch with added life expectancy and minimal maintenance.

Fibre Thatch® is a simulated thatch and is made from UPVC Polymer and has the added advantage that it comes in an easy to use tile format. The tiles are fire retardant to BS476 Part 7 Class 1Y in the UK and a European DIN4102 Part 7 standard.

The tiles are very quick and easy to install, no special tools or skills are needed. The tiles can be clipped onto a 8mm diameter steel rod, rope or nailed onto a wooden batten. Use rust free nails of staples. The tiles are installed in layered courses. The minimum suggested pitch is 25 degrees, much lower than traditional thatch materials.

We recommend a sub-roof of marine ply and felt.

We also employ our own teams of trained installers and will be pleased to quote for supplying and installing tiles to your individual requirements.
